Coffee shop sounds, emo tunes

Like most artists, Wes Gafford can’t define his sound. Although Gafford is unsure of what his music sounds like, his influences are definitely recognizable. With a guitar sound reminiscent of Dashboard Confessional and a voice like Isaac Slade’s of The Fray, Gafford’s solo act, Autumn’s Tragedy, keeps it low-key. Autumn’s Tragedy is an emo, Christian-rock act hailing from Greenville. Lead singer and guitarist Gafford needs only an acoustic guitar and his own voice to create the soft sound. The peculiar name for this solo act was inspired by the story of a girl named Autumn. Her saga is told on the artist’s MySpace page. The story does not end like a typical tragic tale. Rather, the lost girl finds happiness through religion; realizing that a previous sacrifice is all she needs for salvation. Gafford’s tunes range in subject matter from love to faith to life’s trials and tribulations. Tragedy’s mellow songs certainly suit the coffee shop crowd.
