Classic rock and contemporary flames

The lead vocals at times recall Eddie Vedder’s. The guitar sound is reminiscent of Lynyrd Skynyrd. Burning Nova recently rose from the ashes of another local group, Together By Death, which consisted of vocalist Josh Bowers and rhythm guitarist Robbie Boggs. The two added bassist Trandon Crowe, guitarist Charlie Phelps, and drummer Jon Call to form Burning Nova. According to the band’s MySpace page, their name is up for interpretation. Their music seems to follow that same motto. Burning Nova cites influences ranging from Jimi Hendrix to Black Sabbath to Mars Volta. Their sound reflects these varied inspirations, as each tune feels a bit different from the next. “Chemical Fire” comes off like a slow version of “La Bamba.” “Skyscraping Daydream” begins with the sounds of thunder before picking up a steady, Southern-rock pace. In addition to the band’s show at Griffin’s Sports Bar in Clemson, they will play upcoming gigs in Easley, Anderson, and Seneca.
