Indie spring showcase

The WSBF-FM Spring Concert will showcase five bands, as different as they could be, all with indie record deals. Wilmington, N.C.-based folk artist David Dondero will headline the event. Dondero is best known for his songwriting and distressed vocals. The Team Love Records artist has toured the country for years, performing with acts like Bright Eyes and Spoon. Dondero’s experience on the road has influenced his tunes; each reflects life’s ups and downs. Supporting acts at the concert include Look Mexico, We Versus The Shark, New Brutalism and Young Livers. Look Mexico, a Tallahassee, Fla. pop quartet, is borderline emo. The band’s melodies are reminiscent of Modest Mouse. We Versus The Shark, an experimental rock band from Athens, Ga., should bring the “crunk” to the show. Hip-hop drumbeats accompany layered male and female vocals. New Brutalism, of Knoxville, Tenn., is a band of mystery. All their tunes boast screaming vocals and are titled only by number. The obscure group also has a thing for building instruments out of aluminum. Young Livers, hailing from Gainesville, Fla., has a hard edge. The punk-rock band describes their sound as “thrash at a rock tempo.” WSBF-FM is Clemson’s student radio station. The Spring Concert will be held on the area behind the Hendrix Student Center (also known as Baby Bowman/Lever Beach).
