Just walk away

Toxins suffocate the sky, resources are scarce and mohawked maniacs lurk around every hopeless corner. This was a great film – in 1979. Originality jumped ship in post-apocalyptic films after the “Mad Max” trilogy. The only bleak future is one with war paint, hockey masks, chainsaws and stupid punk hairstyles. “Doomsday,” Neil Marshall’s latest effort, shows us the same post-apocalypse we’ve seen time and time again. Mohwaks? Check. Bladed weapons? Check. S&M outfits? You bet. As if the tired setting wasn’t disappointing enough, the heroine looks like she’s channeling Kate Beckinsale from “Underworld.” While Marshall showed promise with “The Descent” and “Dog Soldiers,” this exercise in beating a dead horse screams mediocrity. If you’re thinking about seeing this movie, take Lord Humungus’ advice from “The Road Warrior:” Just walk away.
