The doctor is hip

When we have troubles, so many of us turn to prescription meds. But, unfortunately for us, we get them from dull old doctors with handwriting worse than a second-grader’s. “Charlie Bartlett” follows the titular character as he tries to fit in as a new student in high school. Hailing from a wealthy family, Bartlett has spent lots of time on the psychiatrist couch. He’s also got a pill collection that would make Hunter Thompson jealous. Bartlett becomes the self-appointed psychiatrist of his new school and dishes out advice to those in need. This makes Bartlett incredibly popular, but he finds that the most important thing for him to do is take his own advice. Casting Robert Downey Jr. as the school’s principal couldn’t have been more perfect. His druggie past has made him shine in films like “A Scanner Darkly.” “Charlie Bartlett,” in theaters now, looks to be a stylish coming-of-age tale.
