Authentic reality?

Thank goodness for the “Moment of Truth.” Fox’s new “ground-breaking, pulse-pounding” game show brings out the best in their contestants: honesty. Whether you hate reality TV or tell people you hate it and secretly watch it, it’s hard to deny almost all of all it is scripted in some way. When you watch “The Real World,” the producers are asking you to take the reality with a grain of salt. When you flip on “Next,” MTV is forcing a block of salt on you.
The genius of “Moment of Truth” is that it eliminates the salt altogether. By including the word “truth” itself in the title, Fox forces the reality on you. When you sit down to watch the show, you enter its reality. Whether or not you believe the personal trainer really did touch his clients inappropriately, you take it as truth. Of course, by accepting multiple realities, we’re entering an entirely new discussion that delves into the realms of philosophy. Honestly, I’m not ready to take that dive. Truthfully, I’d much rather just zone out and watch more reality TV — with my saltshaker, of course.
