Striptease, pole dancing and lap dance classes are the hottest trends to hit the gym since Jane Fonda and leg warmers.

What do you get the girl who has everything? A private pole dancing class, of course.

Striptease, pole dancing and lap dance classes are the hottest trends to hit the gym since Jane Fonda and leg warmers. Gyms and dance studios across the nation are enrolling everyone from students to soccer moms in the erotic aerobics class craze.

Originating in 2002 at Crunch Fitness in L.A., engaging in the 300-calorie-blasting moderate workout three times a week can help shed one to two pounds each month, according to Tricia Murphy, an American Council on Exercise and Aerobics and Fitness Association of America certified aerobic instructor.

“It is great cross training,” Murphy said. “Your body wants to be challenged in a different way each time you go to the gym.”

But don’t expect to find a gang of middle-aged “To Catch a Predator”-type men following you to class every day. Most classes don’t encourage nudity and are women-only, but a few are open to the man looking to perfect his pole work.

Unfortunately lap dancing is late-coming to the Upstate. Your closest bet for a lesson in taking it off is in Atlanta. PoleLaTeaz (pronounced like “Pilates”) in Atlanta offers an array of sexercise classes. Take your pick (or your partner’s) from Risque Ballet, Jiggle It, Freaky Floor Work, Lapdance Workshops, Blue Jean Striptease and more, or try the Sampler for a taste of everything erotic. Classes start at $25 for students.

Or let them come to you. PoleLaTeaz offers “On the Road” sessions, so call up Gold’s Gym and start installing those poles. Maybe a new Clemson University Leisure Skills class this fall?

Dance411 Studios in Atlanta promises a leaner bod and a happier man with their Six Weeks to a Sexier Pole series. If that’s not for you, you could always try the Beginner’s Go-Go Stiletto class to get your man go-go-going.

“It’s average people who want to do something that is not average,” said Crunch Fitness aerobics instructor David Doyle.

If dancing around a pole or in a chair in front of complete strangers is a little too above average for you, grab your heels and get sweating with Carmen Electra’s Aerobic Striptease DVDs. You can pick up the collection and its latest additions: “Vegas Strip” and “In the Bedroom,” at Wal-Mart.

Without having to be escorted into a back room.

And at nearly a third of the price of taking a class, we’re pretty sure this is the best investment your boyfriend will ever make for himself.

The surgeon general just got a whole lot sexier.
