Gary Pfaff has been playing music for 14 years, alternating from south rock to heavier alternative rock along the way.
Gary Pfaff never went to prom. Nor his high school graduation. In fact, he describes his childhood as being pretty bizarre.
“I’ve never really had a real job. I started playing bars when I was about 15, and I’m 29 now,” said Pfaff. “Looking back it was pretty wild. It’s a whole lot of freedom to hand a 15-year-old.”
Now Pfaff has graduated to performing over 200 times a year. His first album “White Stars” was recently followed with the live album “Under the Influence.” If it weren’t for the twang in his accent, one might not recognize his music as country or southern rock.
“I’m a big Ben Harper fan. I get compared to everybody across the board,” said Pfaff. “I’ve heard comparisons from Dave Matthews to Dierks Bentley.”
His sound and stories within his music are similar to that of rising Southern star Corey Smith. His new demo ‘Never Looking Back’ is about living a fulfilling life with no regrets. While many country songs seem filled with simple narratives, Pfaff’s lyrics are focused more on humanity in “Hey Love.”
For now Pfaff and his four member band are touring and finishing a new record for a fall release.
