Thinking of going on a rafting trip?

Come to the beautiful Upstate of South Carolina, where “Deliverance” was filmed.

Not exactly a sentence a travel agency will tote, but locals take joy in telling Upstate newbies that the mountain man creepfest film was shot along the Chattooga River. Known for a foreshadowing banjo solo in the film’s beginning, the 35-year-old “Deliverance” pairs Jon Voight and Burt Reynolds as city friends who journey down a river only to meet frightening locals in a traumatizing experience. Who knows why this film was so successful, since it wasn’t the type of scary movie that left you wanting more. The fear builds slowly and the payoff leaves plenty for our dark imagination.

Special features include a commentary track from director John Boorman, a vintage feature called “The Dangerous World of Deliverance,” and a four-part retrospective with Boorman and the actors. Be safe out there.
