You know Oscar season is approaching when Bono’s voice appears on the trailer.

The hype machine for Peter Berg’s new film, “The Kingdom,” is going full speed thanks to positive advance reception, a relevant political theme and a league of A-List talent. That a U2 song was written for the film feels like a requisite rather than a favor.

“The Kingdom” is a marquee release for Universal Pictures, winning praise from early test screenings and possibly rising above the other war-themed movies coming to theaters. Oscar winners Jamie Foxx and Chris Cooper are in tow, as are Jennifer Garner and up-and-coming writer Matthew Michael Carnahan.

Foxx plays an FBI agent who responds to a terrorist bombing on a housing compound on Saudi Arabia. He assembles a team of investigators to secretly take a trip to the country. The agents realize that no success will come from an investigation unless they negotiate with locals, some of which have separate motives. What starts out as an investigative thriller promises to turn into a shoot-‘em-up action movie set with realistic overtones.
